Heading into the last round of racing for the 2018 season, Wienen trailed the points leader by 10 points but after his 1-3 finish for the day Wienen not only clinched the race win, he secured his sixth national Pro championship.

As the gate dropped for moto 1, Wienen had a mid-pack start coming out of the first turn outside the top five. Coming across the first lap Wienen had moved into fifth and put on a hard charge on lap two to make his way into third and continued to move up one position per lap until he made the pass into first by lap four. Wienen went on to push forward and took the first checkers of the day by over 10 seconds. After moto 1 finishes, Wienen moved into the points lead holding a 6-point lead.

As the gate dropped for moto 2, Wienen came into the first turn just inside the top five. Knowing the way the field laid out that he had to finish at least third to clinch the championship, Wienen quickly went to work in making the pass into third before the end of the second lap and went on to maintain a comfortable distance between himself and the rider in fourth.

Wienen Earns Sixth National Championship, 2018

“It was a whirlwind of a day, after leaving Red Bud trailing in the championship points chase by 10 points I knew all I could do was put in a solid two weeks of training to make sure I was heading down to Loretta’s 100% prepared and focused and from there all I could do was go out there and give it my all. Throughout my years as a pro I have learned not only the importance being physically and mentally prepared and ready to race but knowing the dependability of my machine as well is what makes championship winning seasons. I just knew not to give up and keep working until the final checkers flew for the season. I’m so happy for my team and supporters we have put in so much work and dedication this season and years past to make all of these accomplishments possible and I wouldn’t be able to have clinched my sixth championship without all of their support and sacrifice throughout the years.” Said Wienen.
