Teamwork Brings Houghton Another Win

James Houghton Gridlife Track Battle Recap

After their recent win at the Canadian Sport Compact Series opening event in early June James Houghton and the K-Tuned Acura Type R team headed to Gingerman Raceway in South Haven for the premier Gridlife event, their Midwest Festival. Houghton and team were looking forward to a good event at Gingerman… As many racers will testify racing luck can go two ways and on the third lap of opening session, Houghton had issues changing to fourth gear and he had to limp back to the pits using the remaining gears. Bad racing luck had struck and it was in exactly the same spot as Houghton had issues the previous year. Yet the team pulled together to get the car ready for the Bracket Battle.

They stripped the transmission to determine what went wrong, and ultimately decided to put it back together and run the Bracket sans fourth gear, hoping the reduced speeds in the wet and a lower boost setting would allow James to compete. Their decision proved to be a good one. Houghton bested Kendall Samuel in the second round before facing off against Jordan Bryant and his STI in the final round.

“This win was a team effort” he said, “Considered I managed to win without a 4th gear is a great testament to how the car is built and the great components we use. I cannot thank everyone enough for all the hard work! This win is dedicated to my team and all our great sponsors, we cannot do this without you!”
